Job Description:
The Payroll Accountant II is responsible for assisting the
Payroll Supervisor with maintaining company payroll functions. This
position is also responsible for all tasks related to producing
payroll (including payroll, bonus, stock, and payroll tax
procedures) for the company¿s salaried employees. This position
requires payroll processing experience in mid-size companies (250+
employees) and works to maintain employee job satisfaction by
communicating with them regularly on the telephone and by
email.
Job Tasks & Responsibilities
¿ Process separate payrolls for disbursement of fiscal year
bonus
¿ Complete salaried personnel unemployment compensation claims at
the State`s request.
¿ Change paid time off and all other benefit information in the
salaried employees¿ records
in an accurate and timely manner. Make tenure appropriate changes
to employees PTO accruals.
¿ Check and summarize all payrolls and records by state. Review all
payrolls for accuracy
and system integrity. Maintain payroll records, including salary
histories and paid time off information. Responsible for balancing
general ledger accounts from payroll.
¿ Prepare, compute, and input the semi-monthly salaried payroll.
Process and distribute payroll checks. Process and transmit ACH
file transfer for salary and hourly payrolls to various banks.
¿ Create salaried employee payroll records as new hires in system
prior to online orientation. Coordinate with HR to determine
eligibility of employee benefits. Process benefits, deductions and
accruals as they relate to payroll for employee benefit
programs.
¿ Update salaried employee records for wage increases, position and
grade changes, transfer to new locations/states, and/or business
units. Update employee status and distribution of payroll
costs.
¿ Terminate salaried employees in the system, issuing manual checks
if required by state guidelines. Update tax website with terminated
employee¿s information.
¿ Direct payments, handle deductions, and maintain all required
supplemental records for health, life, long-term disability,
short-term disability, 401k deductions, flex deductions and
deferred compensation. Reconcile monthly billings and submit
payments for medical, dental, flex, life, LTD, and HSA
benefits.
¿ Manage withholding levies, wage garnishments, and child support,
making the appropriate remittances. Verify wages as requested.
¿ Set up and maintain logs and files for payroll and employee
data.
¿ Maintain complete confidentiality of all payroll related
information.
¿ Read payroll materials to stay abreast of changing government
regulations.
¿ Routinely test and challenge updates in the computer
system-operating environment to ensure accuracy in the most current
system processes.
¿ Identify, recommend and/or implement process changes that make
the payroll process more efficient.
